What is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

RPL is used to reduce the amount of study or assessment that you may need to do to complete some or all the units of a qualification. It is based on your existing training, qualifications, experience, and knowledge.

RPL is evidence-based – it’s not enough to say you can do a thing, but you must be able to prove it. This proof may be your work history, courses you have done, a signed statement from a supervisor – anything you have that adds weight to your claim.

An important factor is currency. Your evidence should be less than 3 years old. If you have older material, like a training course you did 5 years ago, it would be fine if it was for work you still undertake, but no so good if you haven’t done it since then.
